We believe that every dog deserves to have a loving home, no matter their age or breed. Our shelter holds any lost dogs for a minimum of 3 days or 14 days if dogs are wearing a current year’s license to see if the dog has an owner looking for them. If no owner comes forward the FCDACS will take the next steps to prepare the dog for adoption.

Our shelter's goal is to make sure these loving souls find a new, devoted home.

Choosing to adopt is easy but finding which dog is right one for you and your family isn't always an easy decision because there are so many to choose from!

Adopting a dog from the Fairfield County Dog Adoption Center and Shelter is a breeze. Our friendly staff will help you with every step and any questions you may have during the adoption process. Please note that adoptions are a first come, first serve basis, but we will do all we can to help find the perfect dog for you.

To adopt, you can browse our dogs online or in person at FCDACS. If you've found a dog (or a few!) that you may be interested in visiting with for potential adoption, don't be afraid to reach out to a staff member about the dog's availability, known history, personality, and more.

If you're already sure you want to visit with a dog (or a few dogs), you'll need to complete an Adoption Form. Adoption forms are available online or in-person at the shelter. Once submitted, a staff member will review your Adoption Form and may ask a few questions for clarification, if needed.

If your application is approved by our staff, we will reach out to you in regards to setting up an appointment to visit with whomever you're interested in! If everything goes well, we'll help you finalize paperwork, and you and your new family member will be on their way home.

When you adopt a dog from the Fairfield County Dog Adoption Center and Shelter, you're not only giving a homeless dog a new home, but your adoption fee helps us find more homes for other dogs in need. With the cost of vaccinations, spay/neuter surgeries, microchips, feeding, and care for a healthy dog, the average cost for those available for adoption is $500. As a county wide shelter, we treat all dogs, including those with medical issues, and that cost can quickly increase, or triple in some cases. Below is a cost break down of what the average care of a dog for their medical treatment:

Pre-Adoption spay/neuter and other medical treatments as needed
Vaccinations, deworming, and flea/tick preventative
Current Year Fairfield County Dog License
*Dog license pricing is subject to change.
