Tax Escrow Payment Plan

The Fairfield County Treasurer's Tax Escrow Payment Plan allows taxpayers to prepay property taxes in monthly installments.

Because first-half tax amounts are not finalized by the State until January of the year they are due, monthly escrow payments for the first half are based on an estimate using the prior year's tax amount. Any difference between the estimated escrow payments and the actual tax due is reflected with the amount due in February. (If taxes increase from the previous year, additional amounts need to be paid with the February payment.)

Now that the second-half tax amount is known, monthly escrow payments will be adjusted to better match the total amount due. Participants in the escrow program should expect their monthly payment to increase.

County treasurers in all of Ohio's 88 counties have traditionally served as the local tax collector. However, tighter budgets and increasing demands at the local level have changed the face of the position of county treasurer and increased expectations for this important occupation.

Today's treasurer serves as the county's chief investment officer, the administrator of sophisticated delinquent tax collection programs, and the keeper of property tax escrow accounts. As a result, those who hold this position must be highly trained in investment, cash management, and financial planning strategies to properly manage and safeguard local funds.
