Licensing

The Auditor's Office issues dog licenses, vendor's licenses, and cigarette licenses for Fairfield County.

Dog Licenses

Ohio law requires all dogs over three months old to have a tag. Buy or renew for one year, three years, or the dog's lifetime — online through DocuPet or at the Auditor's Office.

Vendor's Licenses

Any person or business making retail sales of tangible personal property or taxable services in Ohio must obtain a vendor's license. Apply in our office or through the Ohio Business Gateway.

Cigarette Licenses

Retail cigarette dealers must hold a county cigarette license. Licenses run from the fourth Monday in May and are issued through the Auditor's Office.

Dog License Registration

The Ohio Revised Code requires all dogs over the age of three months to have a dog tag. Tags also play an important role in helping return lost dogs to their homes and rightful owners. Tags can be purchased for one year, three years, or the lifetime of the dog by visiting the Auditor's Office or online at Fairfield.docupet.com (a license processing fee applies).

Dog license registration season runs from December 1 through January 31 each year. Tags can also be purchased throughout the year for newly adopted dogs. Current pricing and FAQs are available on the DocuPet registration page.
