PUBLIC RECORDS
The Ohio Attorney General’s Public Records Unit is excited to announce the release of eight short videos it has developed to assist the public in better understanding frequently-asked-about topics under Ohio’s Sunshine Laws.
As a leader in a statewide public service organization, we are reaching out to you to request your help in spreading the word about this useful resource for all public employees, elected officials, members of the media, and the general public.
The videos, which were made possible in part by a grant from the Ohio State Bar Foundation, are now available to the public on the Attorney General’s website and cover topics such as:
- What is a “public office” and what is a “public record” under the Public Records Act?
- How to make a public records request
- How to apply the Confidential Law Enforcement Investigatory Records (CLEIRs) exemption
- Who is a “public body” subject to the Open Meetings Act?
- Determining when a public body may enter into executive session for the purpose of consulting with its legal counsel
- Determining when a public body may enter into executive session for the purpose of discussing personnel matters
- What remedies exist under Ohio’s Sunshine Laws?
If you have any additional questions about these videos, or if we can be of any further assistance, please don’t hesitate to contact the Public Records Unit at 614-466-2872.
