Anyone over the age of 65 or totally disabled at any
age may apply by the first Monday in June for the Homestead Exemption. The
requirements necessary are as follows: You must own and live in the home as
of January 1, be 65 years of age or older or totally disabled at any age.
You may qualify if your property is in a TRUST OR LIFE ESTATE, a copy of the
first page of which should be returned with the application. If you are
already on the Homestead Program, you need NOT reapply.
If you qualify for the program, you will be
entitled to a $25,000 reduction in your appraised property value before
taxes are calculated.
To see if you are currently receiving the Homestead
Exemption, please click on this
link to see your property record card. Near the bottom of the property
record card it says "Homestead Program" and next to that it should say yes.
If your property record card does not show a "yes"
by September, please contact our office at 740-687-7027 or 740-687-7025 and
we will get you another application.
